Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been an immense success with both critics and fans, painting the road for new stories to be told while paying tribute to our old favorites, and it turns out we may have almost seen Yoda.
Spoilers Ahead:
One of the scenes that did just that had Rey (Daisy Ridley) find Luke Skywalker’s first lightsaber, forcing her into a vision which consisted of both images from the past and the future. This included a few nods to some older characters – Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda – through the way of sound recordings taken from Frank Oz, Ewan McGregor, and original Obi-Wan actor Alec Guinness. Although it appears more was initially planned.
Entertainment Tonight has received word from the film’s Oscar-nominated editors, Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey, that they had considered having Jedi Master Yoda appear physically in the film.
“There was one point where we were actually thinking of having Yoda in the film, and then we decided not to,” Maryann Brandon told Entertainment Tonight. “Frank Oz came in for a day and did a whole bunch of Yoda and he was over the moon to do it — and we were tickled pink!”
As cool as it would have been, perhaps it adds more mysticism to the film with only Yoda’s voice to be heard. However, maybe we could get a more appropriate chance to see Yoda onscreen again in one of the upcoming Star Wars films.
