Anime series Cowboy Bebop is being developed into a live-action TV series, reports Deadline. Tomorrow Studios and ITV Studios are newly partnered and are working together to make this dream a reality.
Who better to write for the series than someone credited for Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, TNMT, Wolverine and the X-Men, Ironman: Armored Adventures, and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? Chris Yost is not only a writer, but with that lineup of animated work, he is especially fit for the task.
Sunset Inc., Midnight Radio, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Matthew Weinberg will executive produce the show.
The Bebop crew first premiered in 1998, and we were sucked into their world of bounty hunting on a galactic scale as they tracked down their targets for cash. Heading up the crew is Spike Spiegel, a hero who hides a dark and deadly past by outwardly showing his cool side. Jet is both pilot and lover of fighting, always looking to collect the next bounty. Faye Valentine is a femme fatale, using her wiles to con money from anyone with a weakness for her. Set in the year 2071, along for the space ride of a lifetime are the smart but excusably strange Ed the hacker, and Ein the almost supernaturally intelligent Welsh Corgi.
It was an instant hit, and many were disappointed that it only lasted 26 episodes. While that is considered a normal length for anime in general (there are always exceptions), hardcore fans of the series have long awaited to see it light up their screens once again. A movie version did premiere in 2001, but now it seems that we’ll get more of this anime as a series.
