Back in July, director Brad Bird revealed a few details about the film:
“It’s fundamentally a story about family. The technology has gotten so much better; we can get them close to what we wanted to do in the [original]. It’s like driving a better car.”
In August of last year, Bird said:
“Hopefully it’s the same characters and feel, but going in a new direction. I mean, that’s the trick with a sequel. It’s repeating yourself, without repeating yourself.”
Two years ago, he revealed some interesting details about how the film will connect to the first one:
“I had a bunch of ideas that I wanted to put in The Incredibles, but they just didn’t fit. … There were little scenes and things that I was interested in. I wanted to come up with sort of an over-arching idea that connected to the first film that went somewhere different. That’s the one [thing] that took a little more time.”
“I always want to break things up with something else. I know some directors who have done a movie and then, the very next thing they do is the sequel to that movie. … I will always want to break it up with something else and then come back to it.”
As of right now, the film’s synopsis reads: Elastigirl springs into action to save the day, while Mr. Incredible faces his greatest challenge yet — taking care of the problems of his three children.
Incredibles 2 hits theaters on June 15th, 2018.
