I think most of us can agree that the live-action Resident Evil films took a sharp downturn after the first two. So, while many of us aren’t exactly waiting with bells on for the sixth (and supposedly final, but we’ll see) movie to hit theaters in January, there’s another RE release to look forward to – a new CGI film. The two previous CGI films, Degeneration and Damnation, were surprisingly good. And personally, I think computer animation over live action is actually helpful to these movies, as they don’t feel like such a massive departure from the games. The latest…

Americans have been extremely fortunate in the last 20 years or so. We’ve been showered with a plethora of great superhero movies. Whoever your favorite comic book character is, chances are, you’ve seen him on the big screen by now. (Personally, I’m still waiting for Cable, but at least he’s on his way.) However, the rest of the world hasn’t had quite so much luck. I mean, where the hell is the Captain Britain movie? Australia’s Helm? Azazel (Nightcrawler’s father), who is Mesopotamian? But now, at least one non-‘Murican corner of the world is getting their very own superhero team.…

One of the coolest parts of Batman vs Superman was the sneak peaks we got at the future members of the Justice League. When Bruce Wayne stumbled upon the stolen property Diana Prince was looking for, he was in for several great shocks. Not only did he find out that Diana was an ancient warrior, but he also discovered that there are several other people in this world with extraordinary secrets. There’s a kid who can move at the speed of light. A mysterious humanoid dwelling on the bottom of the sea. And the final, most horrific image of all…

While we wait (and wait, and wait, and w…a…i…t…) for Marvel Studios to acquire the rights to make a solo Hulk film, there’s a new animated one on the way to tide you over. Following Hulk vs Wolverine, Hulk vs Thor, and Planet Hulk, next up is Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell. It will be screened at New York Comic-Con on October 9th. The film follows Hulk, Doctor Strange, and the Howling Commandos as they try to stop Nightmare from taking over the world. And that’s not all the NYCC excitement on the way. The cast of Netflix’s Iron Fist will…

I’ve attended several comic conventions over the years, and the only character I’ve seen cosplayed more than Deadpool is Harley Quinn. Probably half of all dressed out females at a con are, unfortunately, variations on this one same theme. I can’t tell you how many oversized hammers with “your face here” on the end I’ve seen being carried around by slight teenagers who don’t seem to be aware of any other female comic book characters. As a comic fan myself who is also a woman, it’s a little disappointing. There are so many other great female characters to choose from.…

I can’t speak for anyone else, but one of the things I’ve come to look forward to most on the blu-ray releases of comic book films are the special features. Casting, behind the scenes, special effects, storyboards, it’s all fascinating stuff. But the crown jewel of bonus content, without a doubt, is the gag reel. Think about it. You have your top-notch talent, like James McAvoy, Oscar Isaac, and Michael Fassbender, all deep into a super serious scene. Then suddenly, someone falls down, flubs their line, forgets it completely, or finds any other of a myriad of excuses to drop…

The World’s Largest Athlete has done it again. The first time was June 12, 2003. The Big Show was in the ring with Brock Lesnar (before he became a bitch), and decided to take the new young star up to the top rope. However, the tables were quickly turned, and it was Lesnar who ended up performing the most massive superplex the world has ever seen. Both men were super-heavyweights – Lesnar a solid 305, while Show tipped the scales at a gargantuan 485. The effect of 800 pounds (plus the added weight of force and velocity) landing in…

With two Oscar nominations and a slew of other awards under his belt, 39 year old Michael Fassbender has already had quite a career. And with four films released this year, and three more in 2017, he’s showing no signs of slowing down. His roles have been quite varied, having worked in dramas, thrillers, action films, science fiction, biopics, horror, Shakespearean adaptations, and comic book films, just to name a few. So, no matter the genre of the film in question, hearing his name attached isn’t much of a surprise. What is a bit of a surprise, though, is the…

In what turned out to be a pretty anticlimactic ending to his career, WWE has parted ways (again) with former four-time champion Alberto Del Rio. Hailed as “Mexico’s Greatest Export,” the 39 year old wrestler (born Jose Rodriguez) was suspended last month for a violation of the company’s talent wellness policy. The exact nature of his violation hasn’t been made public, but the two most prevalent rumors were marijuana and Adderall. Soon after the WWE made their official announcement, Del Rio posted a brief statement on Twitter. My business relationship with WWE has come to an end in good…

It’s been more than nine years since the horrific tragedy gripped not only wrestling fans, but also true crime aficionados, news junkies, conspiracy theorists, and, well, pretty much everyone. Many of us remember it well, although I imagine we also remember it differently. Such is the effect of the passage of time, the uncovering of evidence, and the facts that create more questions than they answer. This is what I remember. I turned on the TV to watch Raw, as I did (and still do) every Monday night. Rather than the usual raucous crowd and rowdy show, however, the crowd…
