When are we going to get this Gambit movie?! After several setbacks, including its star, Channing Tatum, threatening to quit, it looks like this movie will be pit into Developmental Hell. But remember, Deadpool went through all sorts of hell to get made. Though, Ryan Reynolds persevered.
MoviePilot has this theory. It suggests that Tatum will not persevere, and jump ship over to DC. The theory stems from Rick Famuyiwa, who recently has been signed on to direct The Flash movie with Ezra Miller. As soon as he was announced, he started following several people on Twitter who are involved with DC in some way. These people include Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, and Geoff Johns (the guy replacing Zack Snyder to helm the DCEU). Amongst those people were Channing Tatum. Sure, this may be a coincidence, but MoviePilot thinks otherwise.
They believe that Tatum will be our new Captain Marvel. Ah ha, you thought Brie Larson was going to be Captain Marvel. Sure, Marvel’s Captain Marvel. Well, DC has a Captain Marvel, too. Though, you may know him better as Shazam. You may also know that, while Warner Brothers is planning on adding a Shazam movie to the DCEU slate, the only actor attached so far is Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a The Rock. He will be playing Captain Marvel/Shazam’s antagonist, Black Adam.
This is quite a stretch, as Famuyiwa may just be a fan of Tatum. Maybe he liked the 21 Jump Street movies. Maybe, he too has hopes for Gambit. I know I sure do. I think Tatum will make a great Remy LeBeau. But I’m liking this Shazam idea. Lets see what happens.
Shazam! is slated to strike theaters April 5th, 2019.
*Update* Now that director Doug Liman has left the film for Justice League Dark – perhaps it’s even more likely that Tatum will leave.
