Spider-Man Meets The Punisher: Tom Holland Shares Photo With Jon Bernthal

Tom Holland shared a behind-the-scenes photo with Jon Bernthal sparking fan speculation about a potential Spider-Man and Punisher crossover.

Marvel fans are still reeling from the announcement of a new Spider-Man, with The Impossible star Tom Holland officially cast as Peter Parker. Around the same time, The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal has been revealed to be joining the Marvel/Netflix universe as Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher, in the second season of Daredevil.

In a move that instantly fueled speculation among fans, Holland shared a photo to his Instagram account featuring himself and Bernthal together — a simple image that said more than words could. While the post didn’t confirm any official crossover plans, it was enough to get the Marvel community talking. Were these two simply bonding as newcomers to the MCU? Or could it have hinted at a deeper narrative connection between their characters down the road?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding rapidly — not just in theaters, but on the small screen as well. Netflix had already found success with Daredevil, and the street-level tone of the show marked a sharp contrast to the more polished, blockbuster style of Marvel’s film output. The introduction of The Punisher into that world is a sign that Marvel was willing to push its tone darker and more grounded.

Meanwhile, Holland’s casting came on the heels of Sony’s agreement with Marvel Studios, allowing the character of Spider-Man to join the MCU proper after two separate solo franchises. It was a fresh start for the character, with Holland eventually making his first appearance in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

The two characters have clashed — and occasionally teamed up — in various Marvel storylines over the years. Spider-Man’s moral compass often puts him at odds with The Punisher’s more brutal methods, making their dynamic a compelling one for readers and fans alike.
