Deadpool’s recent R-Rated success seems to have had an effect on the other studios, with Fox eyeing up an R-Rated Wolverine sequel and Warner Brothers looking at releasing a more mature version of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice for its release on Blu-Ray release. But are Disney looking to jump on to the R-Rated bandwagon? Read on to see what they say.
When asked by a shareholder whether the studio would look into following suit, Disney Ceo Bob Iger responded:
“We don’t have any plans to make R-rated Marvel movies.”
While this news is likely to disappoint fans who were hoping to see Marvel release slightly more mature films on the big screen, this doesn’t stop them correctly portraying there more ‘Adult’ characters on Netflix. Both the first seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones certainly haven’t been kid friendly and from the way it sounds Daredevil Season Two looks to be even darker with the inclusion of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher.
Given Marvels successful record with the films released so far, it is also unlikely they feel the need to change up the way they do things. The characters with upcoming films don’t necessarily warrant an R-rating to be effective, Iger himself believes that this years Captain America: Civil War is some of the best Marvel storytelling to date.
