There were quite a few new movie trailers this week and in case you were living under a rock, here are the most notable ones.
TMNT: Out of the Shadows
The Turtles are “Out of the Shadows” with their newest movie being released in early June of this year. This trailer showcases them as we’ve always known them to be. Full of action, spirit, and pizza. Megan Fox makes another appearance as April O’Neil, along with most of the other characters from their previous release. As always, there is a threat in their city, and they have to neutralize it, while keeping their anonymity, of course.
This being a sequel, it is only natural to think back to their 2014 release. Most of the creative minds that came together for that movie regrouped for this round. Keeping the childhood nostalgia close with the cartoon and release of the film in 1990, I am really hoping the franchise will get a better reception this time around. The younger generation deserves to know the Turtles as we did, way back when. – Kelsey Mejiarodarte
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
K. Rowling’s wizarding world. It extends way beyond Hogwarts and its rich, studious, and dangerous history. However, history is where we’re being led to next. Full of intrigue, the clip drew my attention so quick; it was almost a mini-movie in and of itself.
The trailer opens with writer Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) checking in his seemingly normal luggage at a train station in New York. However, the luggage is clearly anything but normal, as is each scene clip that follows. Set 70 years before Harry Potter reads Newt’s book, historical society and magic intertwine with mystery, intrigue, and of course, secrets. I absolutely cannot wait to see this when it is released in November of this year. Until then, I’ll probably marathon the Harry Potter movies and let my imagination wander. – Kelsey Mejiarodarte
Doctor Strange
The teaser for Marvel’s Dr. Strange has finally dropped today and Marvel keeps on reminding us why they are the powerhouse of the comic book movie world. The MCU has finally started to delve into the mystical world of Marvel that has been a prominent role for decades. In the trailer, we get we get a small intro for Steve Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the accident that would set him on a course to encounter The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and the eventual confrontation with the still unknown villain played by Mads Mikkelsen. A lot of mystery and intrigued fills this teaser to the brim of excitement all ending with an amazing shot of Strange’s iconic Sanctum Sanctorum. It looks like Marvel will have another hit on their hands come this November.
I was never a fan of Doctor Strange and only began gaining interest after reading Marvel’s Secret Avengers comics. This trailer only grabs my attention more as I want to go further into the crazy world of the Sorcerer Supreme. Plus the stellar cast lets the audience know that Marvel might have an amazing script on their hands. – Mark Salcido
Suicide Squad
So Warner Bros released another trailer for Suicide Squad titled “Blitz” and you feel it. Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman, Jared Leto, Will Smith, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Adam Beach, Jay Hernandez and Karen Fukuhara all pop up to remind of us of this great ensemble cast. The plot and main villain still remains a mystery which only lets the anticipation grow.
We get another look at the roster of anti-heroes and the hypothetical need for the squad with more scenes featuring Leto’s Joker and a couple of quick glimpses of Affleck’s Batman. Once that pass with the intro of what’s sure to be another icon laugh from the joker, the pace picks up and it’s perfect. The editing goes amazingly well with the music and gets you more hyped than WB’s other recent attempt at a comic book film. Come at me Batman V. Superman fans! The film seems dark but not too dark and lets a bit of humor sprinkled over this story. This, for sure will be a fun and wild ride. – Mark Salcido
