Steven Spielberg recently said that he thinks that superhero films will eventually go the way of the Western and disappear completely. That doesn’t change the fact that he’s recently watched superhero films and had high praise for one in particular:
“I really like Richard Donner’s Superman, Nolan’s Dark Knight and the first Iron Manmovie, but the superhero movie that most impressed me was Guardians of the Galaxy,” Spielberg said at the Cannes Film Festival while doing press for BFG. “When it ended, I left the cinema with the feeling that I had just experienced something new, free of cinicism and without concern for being gritty when necessary.”
James Gunn was certainly pleased by this praise:
