It’s no secret that the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot is receiving very divisive reactions online. The first trailer is the most-disliked trailer on Youtube, and there has been many an internet fight between those that think that the movie is a pointless cash-in and those that think the people that hate the movie are misogynists.
While the movie’s director has weighed in several times on the online hate that it’s received, its star Melissa McCarthy has now spoken out about the reactions she and her co-stars have received:
“All those comments – ‘You’re ruining my childhood!’ I mean, really, four women doing any movie on earth will destroy your childhood? I have a visual of those people not having a Ben [Falcone, McCarthy’s husband and occasional director], not having friends, so they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the internet. I just hope they find a friend.”
While there has been a great deal of sexist backlash about the movie, these comments are definitely only going to further the fight between everyone involved, as it casts anyone that dislikes the movie as a stereotypical friend-less nerd who hates women.
What do you think of McCarthy’s comments? Comment and, uh, make sure to be civil.
