Some actors seem to disappear into their roles, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln or Leonardo DiCaprio in pretty much any role he takes. Now, it sounds as though Clint Eastwood may have become one of his characters – although it may not be for the best.
The veteran actor recently spoke with Esquire, where he seemed to be talking in a way very reminiscent of his Gran Torino character whilst praising Republican Nominee Donald Trump. He told the interviewer:
“He’s onto something, because secretly everybody’s getting tired of political correctness, kissing up, That’s the kiss-ass generation we’re in right now. We’re really in a pussy generation. Everybody’s walking on eggshells.”
He then went on to play the ‘back in my day’ card explaining:
“We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist.”
However, he is fully aware that Trump has made mistakes in the past, going on to say:
“He’s said a lot of dumb things. So have all of them. Both sides. But everybody — the press and everybody’s going, ‘Oh, well, that’s racist,’ and they’re making a big hoodoo out of it.”
He ended with:
” Just f**king get over it. It’s a sad time in history.”
While it does sound that he’s very much in the ‘Trump’ camp, he’s actually refused to endorse either candidate but reveals that if pushed he’d have to go for Trump.
I think it’s safe to assume which way he’ll be voting come November.
What do you think? Are you surprised by this? Does it make sense for the actor to think this way? Let us know below!
