While the newer Superman films have performed well in theaters and on video, opinions among the fanbase have always been mixed. Some people love the serious, more realistic tone brought to life by director Zack Snyder. Humanity’s inherent duality, their ability to be both good and bad, leaves young Clark Kent confused on what to do with his powers, and afraid to help people because of what their reactions may be. Which is understandable, considering the fact that they hold him solely responsible for the destruction wrought by General Zod.
Others, however, want Kal-El to be the same smiling boy scout type they remember from their childhood, as portrayed by the late great Christopher Reeve. In their world, Metropolis is worth saving because it’s a beautiful place, full of kind people who will mostly do the right thing. The citizens all appreciate Superman’s heroism, and never blame him when things don’t go quite right.
.
One of the latter crowd has created a trailer that brings us a somewhat more uplifting son of Jor-El. Using footage from Man of Steel, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a less brooding Clark Kent takes center stage. He enjoys his powers, rather than feeling burdened by them, and smiles with gratitude for the good they allow him to do.
