    New POWER RANGERS Trailer Released

    By Jennifer HuneycuttJanuary 19, 2017

The latest trailer for the new Power Rangers reboot has been released, and we’re finally getting unobstructed looks at all of the principal characters.

Five misfit teens discover an otherworldly artifact in a hidden cave, and are imbued with the abilities of the Power Rangers, making them superhuman evil-fighting machines. Red, yellow, pink, black, and blue hues emanate from their chosen vessels.

We also see Bryan Cranston’s Zordon, the giant disembodied face who guides the Rangers in the use of their new abilities. But the one we’ve really been waiting for is Rita Repulsa, Elizabeth Banks’ nasty green villain. But if you were expecting a horned, robed witch in all her cackling glory, think again. Rita is dark, quiet, and incredibly powerful.

This update takes (at least a little bit of) the cheese out of the original series, painting the Rangers as a group of teenage superheroes. Mixing in elements of films like Chronicle, Man of Steel, and I Am Number Four, it nevertheless maintains a necessary level of humor about these kids and their unbelievable situation. (They even manage to work in the silly catchphrase, “It’s morphin’ time!”)

SABAN’S POWER RANGERS follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.

As someone who hated the original series, even as a kid, for its over-the-top camp and ridiculosity, I must admit, this movie looks like a lot of fun. What do you think? Be sure to sound off in the comment section below!
