APOCALYPSE NOW Video Game Heads To Kickstarter For Funding

    By Matt ConwayJanuary 27, 2017

Apocalypse Now is one of the most accomplished war films to hit theaters. Between Francis Ford Coppola’s masterful direction and Marlon Brando’s potent performance, its a classic film that continues to live on forty years after its release.

To some surprise though, it appears that an Apocalypse Now video game could be on its way. Under Coppola’s American Zoetrope productions, the brand has hit Kickstarter looking for 900,000 thousand dollars in funding for the game.

Here is the official announcement as well as a small description:

Your mission begins in Saigon, where Willard is holed up in a dingy hotel. Audio and visual distortion evoke Willard’s emotions and past experiences. The game provides you subjective access to a character who is already nearly insane. Unlike a traditional RPG, the emphasis is not choosing dialogue, but rather actions and postures. Combat draws from survival horror to emphasize combat avoidance and stealth. This is not Call of Duty in Vietnam.

On paper, this concept for a game sounds insane. After watching the Kickstarter video though, I think it has some promise. They key to it all is the approach the developers are taking, with a survival horror vibe being very fitting to the narrative. If this gets funded, look for it to be a much-talked about game.

Check out and support the Kickstarter here.
