Sylvester Stallone is coming back another of his cigar chomping, gun toting, nostalgia filled extravaganzas in the form of Expendables 4! On top of working on Rambo 5, which is shooting for a September release (pun totally intended), it has been confirmed that Stallone will indeed be back for the 4th installment in the popcorn action film franchise.
Some might see this news from Deadline as a bit of a no-brainer, as Stallone spearheaded the first three films as the mercenary group leader, Barney Ross, but his involvement has been up in the air, at best, after a bit of a falling out with Nu Image/Millennium chairman Avi Lerner. But apparently it is all water under the bridge, as Stallone is now confirmed for the flick which is supposed to start shooting this summer in Bulgaria (according to fellow costar, former UFC Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight champion, Randy Couture).
Screenwriter Greg Poirier is also said to be back, however a director has yet to be named. We’re sure Stallone will have final say on who directs, if he doesn’t take up the head chair himself.
So, now we have to wonder who else is back for the franchise. While Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren are all but guaranteed to be back, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes and Mr. Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford, are most likely done. Bruce Willis is also not expected to return, having had a fallout with Stallone himself. As for Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Terminator has stated that he wouldn’t be back without Sly, so it should be safe to assume that he will now be back with the new update.
So, get your popcorn ready and prepare for an explosion filled, bullet ridden, actionfest aiming for an early 2019 release (again, total pun intention)!
