We all know the legendary story of action figure Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story film franchise. Well, fans will now be getting a closer look at the character. It looks like Buzz Lightyear will be getting his own unique spin-off with the film Lightyear – and Chris Evans is attached to voice the character. What’s interesting is that this film won’t be following the action figure version of Buzz, but rather the iconic Space Ranger the toy is inspired by.
As explained in the official announcement from Pixar, which included a neat little title sequence:
“Blasting into theaters June 17, 2022, Lightyear is the definitive story of the original Buzz Lightyear. Voiced by @ChrisEvans, get ready to go to ‘infinity and beyond’ with Lightyear.”
What’s more, they also revealed a new image of Buzz Lightyear as he’ll appear in the film – an appearance which will no doubt suit Chris Evans. While it’s not too different from the Buzz Lightyear we’re used to seeing in the Toy Story film series, it’s still a unique and much more epic take on the character. And when you consider how epic sequences like the opening of Toy Story 2 were, which focused on Buzz Lightyear in his traditional space setting, there’s no doubt this new movie will be an incredible addition to the Toy Story franchise. Not to mention in its own right.
