Hugh Jackman has been done with Wolverine since 2017’s Logan movie. It was a fitting end to a beloved character, but that still hasn’t stopped fans from campaigning for the actor to return. Fans have been especially vocal about that possibility ever since Disney acquired 20th Century FOX. Jackman has said it’ll never happen – but he hasn’t said no to playing another Marvel character, which was probably the inspiration behind some pretty cool fan art. It imagines Jackman playing Ultimate Cable. As you know, Cable was last played by Josh Brolin in Deadpool 2.
The concept art comes from Instagram user spdrmnkyxxiii, who writes:
Ultimate Cable. I’d really love to see @thehughjackman in the MCU in some sort of way!
Would you all like to see Hugh in the MCU?

As far as the future of Cable in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is concerned, with Ryan Reynolds continuing to play Deadpool, we can only assume Cable will continued to be played by Brolin. There’s obviously a history with Brolin and Marvel Studios, as the actor played the biggest villain in Marvel history in Thanos. His schedule in that regard is open, though, as we all saw what happened to the villain at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame.
As far as Wolverine’s future, it’s been rumored that Marvel is looking to cast a young actor in the role, which would make sense. Whoever gets cast in the role will definitely have big shoes to fill, but as Marvel Studios has proven time and time again, they know what they’re doing when it comes to casting these characters. It’ll probably be a while before we see X-Men characters make their debuts, as there’s nothing on the future MCU schedule (as of right now) regarding what’s going on with the X-Men, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
