While Grand Theft Auto 5 has continued to be a high-selling title for multiple generations’ worth of consoles, it appears that developer Rockstar Games does indeed have a Grand Theft Auto 6 in the works. This is great news, considering how long fans have wondered if they planned to do anything with the video game franchise following the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 and its lengthy lifespan.
In fact, Grand Theft Auto 5 is actually the second best-selling video game of all time. As such, there’s a lot of focus on keeping the game alive and running. But knowing that Rockstar Games is also looking towards the future is reassuring for fans that want something a little different. Of course, it’s possible that development could still take quite some time.
Here’s what they had to say regarding Grand Theft Auto 6, via Twitter:
“Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we’ve previously delivered. We’re pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the series is underway.”
Now that fans no longer need to speculate if the title is in development or not, they can begin speculating everything else. After all, there weren’t many details given, so there are lots of possibilities to discuss. This includes whether or not the game could see a release on older platforms, or if Rockstar Games would prefer to focus on keeping their game exclusive to newer hardware. A lot of these details also depend on how long the game’s development will last. As such, this will be an interesting title to watch.
In the meantime, fans are still able to enjoy Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto: Online. The two video game experiences have certainly kept the franchise fresh in the minds of fans, so hopefully Grand Theft Auto 6 doesn’t disappoint.
