As those who watched the recent libel trial between Amber Heard and her ex-husband Johnny Depp know, most of the verdict was in favor of Johnny Depp. As such, Amber Heard owes Johnny Depp $10 million. Although Amber Heard plans to appeal the verdict, for the time being, the $10 million must still be paid. As such, a GoFundMe was recently started which appeared to try and raise at least $1 million of the required sum that Amber Heard has to pay.
Interestingly, as noted via Insider, whoever created the page claimed they were in direct contact with Amber Heard’s legal team. Furthermore, they insisted that Amber Heard would be given all of the funds raised. The fundraiser, titled “Justice for Amber Heard,” was created with the following description:
“The trial was a disgrace. I believe Amber, and social media protected the abuser. The judgment exceeds her net worth. It’s so sad that he was able to get away with the abuse. The judgment furthers that abuse. If you can please help her.”
As it turns out, however, the claims made by this fundraiser appear to be false. It’s been stated that they actually did not have any kind of connection with Amber Heard’s legal team. GoFundMe responded by removing the “Justice for Amber Heard” campaign entirely. Here’s what Insider stated on the matter:
“A spokesperson told TMZ the GoFundMe page was flagged and taken down before a “substantial” amount of money was raised. Neither Heard nor her legal team created the fundraiser, the outlet added.”
What’s more, Insider was told by a GoFundMe representative that the website would “remove any fundraisers unless there’s a direct connection and the fundraiser has been authorized by the recipient of the funds.”
They added GoFundMe’s “top priority is to keep our community safe and protect the generosity of our donors.”
It’s unknown what exactly will happen next, other than Amber Heard plans to appeal the verdict. Her lawyer Elaine Bredehoft already claimed that Amber Heard won’t be able to pay the $10 million.
