Earlier this year, it was reported that a new HBO Max series titled Welcome to Derry was in development. Excitingly enough, it was also revealed that the series would be set before the events of IT: Chapter One and IT: Chapter Two, telling the history of Pennywise before the events of the two blockbuster horror films. Now the new showrunners for Welcome to Derry have been revealed with the confirmation that the series is still happening.
As revealed via Variety, “Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane will serve as co-showrunners on the ‘It‘ prequel series.” Furthermore, they’ve revealed that two of the brilliant minds from the IT films, specifically director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti, are also involved with the project.
Additionally, “it was previously reported that Fuchs wrote the teleplay for the first episode of the series, based on a story he wrote along with the Muschiettis, who brought Fuchs onto the project.” Furthermore, they noted that Fuchs was previously a co-producer on IT: Chapter Two. And, to further connect with the film franchise, they noted that Andy Muschietti is “being eyed to direct the series premiere.”
Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane will also executive produce the series alongside Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, who will executive produce under their Double Dream production banner. It was further revealed that Warner Bros. Television is the studio behind the project.
Hopefully we’ll have more details soon. In addition to having co-produced IT: Chapter Two, Jason Fuchs previously worked on Wonder Woman, Pan, and Ice Age: Continental Drift. Meanwhile, Brad Caleb Kane is known for having worked as a writer on such shows as Moonhaven and Tokyo Vice. He’s also worked as a writer on Black Sails and Fringe.
