Fans have been enjoying the HBO series The Last of Us so far. Unfortunately, that hasn’t stopped the third episode of The Last of Us from being review bombed on IMDb.
This has become common practice for upset “fans” on the internet. Users will spam low ratings on IMDb in an effort to make something look negatively-received. Now The Last of Us has been the latest victim of being review bombed.
Obvious spoilers for Episode 3 of The Last of Us follow.
Viewers will recall that the third episode of the series involves a romance between characters Frank (Murray Bartlett) and Bill (Nick Offerman). Their gay romance becomes the focus of this particular episode instead of the prior two episodes’ Joel and Ellie.
And, despite the positive reactions from fans and critics, others are quite upset. In fact, as of this writing, there are over 29,000 reviews on IMDb that have rated the episode with 1 out of 10. The episode’s score itself is stuck at 8.0 as a result. Meanwhile, the first two episodes of the series are sitting at 9.2 and 9.3, respectively.
Here is a sample of some of the reviews:
Again just another instance of the small minority of gay people exerting their influence in Hollywood to push their agenda on the world.
I’ll stop watching this title , the story of 2 gay men is inserted into the story and to the drama that does not make any sense.
Why did they even decide to make this episode?
This just seems like bait for awards season by shoving gay romance in our faces. Yes, Bill was gay in the game, but it was a subtle detail that is found out after their meeting with him was over. I have officially lost all faith in Druckmann to produce a competent retelling of this legendary story. Avoid this crap and stop after episode 2.
Went downhill fast….. Forced gay love story out of the blue…. This was just hinted in the game but of course you gotta virtue signal. In itself not terrible but everything about this was written by an absolute moron with no bases in reality. Two gay lovers manage to live for well over a decade!! In a small town they’ve ruled BY THEMSELVES IN THE WOLD OF THE LAST OF US, with no infected or raiders having killed them in all that time, with all the luxuries of the old world…. A few Raiders come to take over ONCE and give up after a couple of em die and they get to love and live happily ever after…. Wtf 🤣🤣 an absolute moron must have written this.
It’s clear that some fans might be upset to have an episode focusing on characters other than Joel and Ellie. But the majority of these negative reviews tend to complain about the characters being gay. And, furthermore, how they explore their romantic relationship amid the apocalypse around them.
Nevertheless, even with review bombing against it, The Last of Us has maintained an overall positive reception so far. We’ll have to see if it maintains that status as the series continues. But given the success so far – it probably will.
