Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy have been waiting years for the third film to finally happen. Now that the long-awaited sequel is here, however, it’s time to take a look at the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 post-credits scenes.

As with just about every movie in the MCU, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 features two post-credits scenes. As such, fans are definitely going to want to stick around in the theater. But for those that already have – what exactly did these scenes mean?

Here are the two post-credits scenes, but be warned, there are spoilers:

The first post-credits scenes features Rocket as he now leads a new Guardians team. This fits because he was made captain by Star-Lord at the end of the film. The new team now includes Kraglin Obfonteri (Sean Gunn), Groot (Vin Diesel), Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), Cosmo the Spacedog (Maria Bakalova), and one of the girls they rescued from the High Evolutionary’s ship. It’s unknown how the MCU will utilize this young girl, but in the comics she’s revealed to actually be Captain Marvel’s daughter.

The scene continues as the group is exposed on a desert planet. They discuss their favorite songs while Rocket chooses Redbone’s “Come and Get Your Love.” Fans will recognize this song for having been used in the opening of the first Guardians of the Galaxy film when we first meet Star-Lord. The scene continues as they prepare to tackle their next enemy – a species of fox-like aliens.

The second post-credits scene features Star-Lord, aka Peter Quill. His character has a simple exchange with his grandfather, played by Gregg Henry, as the two discuss mowing their neighbor’s lawn. It’s a sharp contrast from Peter Quill’s previous life in space. Of course, his grandfather also reads a newspaper with the headline “Alien Abduction” that references Kevin Bacon being kidnapped in the Guardians Holiday Special.

Furthermore, it doesn’t seem like this is the end for Star-Lord. An additional title card features the following line:

“The legendary Star-Lord will return.”

Original Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn returned to direct this third installment.

The cast for the film features returning stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and the voice talents of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. Will Poulter is joining the cast as Adam Warlock.

The highly-anticipated sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently playing in theaters. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on any upcoming MCU projects as we have them.
