The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding its Multiverse with previously unrelated Marvel adaptations. We’ve already seen the X-Men franchise pulled into the MCU. Now with Deadpool 3, it looks like Jennifer Garner is set to return as Elektra for the upcoming movie.
This exciting development was shared via THR. They noted that “after a nearly twenty-year hiatus,” Garner will be “returning to the role of Marvel Comics’ assassin anti-heroine for Deadpool 3.”
Fans will recall that Jennifer Garner first portrayed Elektra in the 2003 film Daredevil. The film starred Ben Affleck as the titular character, and interestingly enough, he’s also reportedly involved with Deadpool 3. Garner then reprised the role for her own solo movie titled Elektra in 2005. Sadly, neither film turned out to be a success, and until now, these respective versions of the characters remained unused.
It’s unknown how exactly Elektra as played by Jennifer Garner, and presumably Affleck’s Daredevil, will play their parts in Deadpool 3. But one can imagine that the titular character will be hopping throughout the Multiverse on his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And, with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine at his side, it’s sure to be one wild ride. And we’ll likely have even more cameos revealed as production continues. At this time, Marvel has not made an official comment regarding Garner’s involvement in the film.
Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3 from a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux previously worked on the film’s screenplay.
The upcoming film stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Brianna Hildebrand, and Shioli Kutsuna, in addition to returning cast members Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Morena Baccarin, Stefan Kapicic and Rob Delaney. Newcomers include Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen.
Deadpool 3 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated blockbuster as we have them.
