The Batman film franchise is receiving another new iteration with The Brave and the Bold. The upcoming DCU movie is set to introduce a new version of Batman for the new shared cinematic universe. Obviously, fans are eager to know who could play the caped crusader, and now James Gunn has responded to a cast rumor surrounding the Batman movie.

The rumor is that actor John Krasinski was being eyed for the role. Of course, fans will recall that Krasinski recently played a variant of Mr. Fantastic for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so he’s no longer a stranger to the superhero genre. Now James Gunn has answered the possibility of the new Batman finally being cast.

As you can see below, a fan simply brought up the rumor to Gunn on Threads, asking if there was any truth to the newly-surfaced rumors. As revealed by James Gunn, however, the rumors can’t be true because they haven’t even started writing the script.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Gunn says about the rumors. “But we don’t even have a script, and there’s a strike happening,” he notes. “So, no, no casting,” he concludes.

Hopefully we’ll have more details soon. Of course, we still have quite some time before the film will be released. In fact, the first live-action DCU film is set to be Superman: Legacy in 2025, which James Gunn has written and plans to direct himself. It’s this film that will set the stage for the universe in which The Brave and The Bold is set.

Andy Muschietti is so far attached to direct The Brave and The Bold. As of now, it looks like a script has yet to be written, but it’s likely that work will get underway once the strikes end. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated film and who’ll end up playing the part of Batman.
