Sony has announced a variety of plans to expand their ownership of the Spider-Man brand for movies and television. Unfortunately, one of these highly-anticipated Spider-Man spin-off projects from Sony has been cancelled.
A variety of feature films, including Venom and Morbius have been released, with Kraven the Hunter on the way. Of course, some of these film projects have been moving a little more slowly, and now according to writer Lindsey Anderson Beer, it might be moving a little slower. As revealed in an interview with ComicBook.com, the spin-off series she began working on is no more.
Here’s what she had to say about the Spider-Man spin-off series Silver Sable being cancelled:
“It was something that Sony was looking at and then, as far as I know, is not currently developing. I had to hop off that to another project at the time. I was only on it as — people hire writers as, it’s called a ‘weekly,’ I was helping them out. But yeah, I’m not sure.”
Fortunately, Lindsey Anderson Beer has still been keeping herself busy. She recently wrote and directed Pet Sematary: Bloodlines for Paramount Plus as her directorial debut. Additionally, she’s previously written a draft of the screenplay for Disney’s live-action Bambi adaptation. If that’s not enough, she’s currently involved with several other projects including a sequel to Star Trek: Beyond and a new take on the cult classic sci-fi film Short Circuit.
As for Spider-Man, there are still several other spin-offs on the way. In addition to the aforementioned Kraven the Hunter, fans can also look forward to the completion of Madame Web. A sequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is also in the works.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Spider-Man franchise updates as we have them. Hopefully fans will still have the opportunity to see a Silver Sable project come to life, whether on the big screen or television.
