Netflix has subscribers upset with the cancellation of yet another fan-favorite series. This time the home of Stranger Things made the decision to cancel a fan-favorite action series with only three seasons on their platform.
As Netflix subscribers already know, the streaming giant is not afraid to cancel shows that have a big following, despite the potential backlash that comes with it – and the latest series coming to an end continues that trend.
As shared by Variety, “the voyages of Leif, Harald, and Freydis will come to a close with Season 3,” confirming the cancellation of Vikings: Valhalla. Obviously fans are disappointed with this news, but series co-creator and executive producer Jeb Stuart is still happy to have delivered such a great project.
“I am so grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald and Freydis. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today and we have done just that,” Stuart shared. “I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes. When we started this project 5 years ago, I worked hard with this incredible cast and crew to craft a journey that we all hoped would be satisfying.”
He continued to explain that Season 3 is still a logical conclusion regardless of how much more story could still be told:
“Of course with real historical figures, there are always more aspects of their lives that could be explored, but it made sense story-wise for our Leif, Freydis and Harald’s voyages to end with our third season. And we really cannot wait for the fans to see the conclusion of this chapter of history.”
With that said, fans still have some time before the third season of the series drops. It’s currently scheduled to be released in 2024.
