The 2008 blockbuster Iron Man kicked off the franchise we now know as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The franchise is currently made up of dozens of films, television shows, and specials. Now with The Marvels headed to theaters – it’s time to look at every MCU movie in chronological order.
The addition of The Marvels now means that there are 33 movies currently within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, this list doesn’t include television shows or other such offerings, and there are still a variety of other movies in the works. But it is quite a feat to see that the MCU has made it to its 33rd film.
What’s interesting, however, is that these movies aren’t always released in chronological order. In fact, some films like Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain Marvel, were released after Iron Man despite taking place years prior. It’s an interesting way to keep things fresh and now that The Marvels progresses the franchise further, fans are no doubt eager to see how everything connects.

It’s certainly an impressive list and one that can sometimes be difficult to keep track of. In fact, Marvel Studios keeps the MCU divided into phases and sagas. As of this writing, we’re in the fifth phase of the franchise. The first three phases are known as the Infinity Saga, while Phase Four, Phase Five, and Phase Six will be collectively known as the Multiverse Saga. On that note, The Marvels is a very important film for this particular saga moving forward.
