Zack Snyder has been working on a variety of projects with Netflix. Sadly, it looks like one of his most highly-anticipated Netflix projects has now been cancelled.

Zack Snyder confirmed as much in a new interview. It appears that his hit Netflix movie Army of the Dead was intended to be expanded upon with an animated series titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. It’s this particular series that was left unfinished.

It certainly seems like fans of Snyder missed out on this project. Especially because it would’ve also tied in with Zack Snyder’s upcoming live-action film Rebel Moon. Here’s what Snyder shared on that front with Total Film via Games Radar:

“At one point in the show, they go through a portal into another dimension, and there are characters in that other dimension that they come across,” Snyder explains, “In Rebel Moon, they’re in this bar, and one of the aliens is one of the characters from the animatic. So it’s definitely a shared universe.”

It’s even more tragic because the series was apparently very close to completion. So close, in fact, that Snyder says “you could watch it.”

“We did all the scripts and the animatics, and all the voices are recorded. So you could watch it, even in its crazy animatic form – you can watch the whole run.”

Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas would have been a prequel following the early days of the undead outbreak prior to the events of the live-action films Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves. But now that we know it would have also tied in with the events of Rebel Moon – it’s definitely a disappointment to know we almost had an entire shared universe of Netflix projects from DC filmmaker Zack Snyder.

As for now, fans can look forward to the first Rebel Moon film when it hits Netflix on December 22, 2023.
