The hit animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender is being adapted for live-action. The first teaser trailer for the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender series, which is being produced for Netflix, can be seen below.
Of course, fans may recall that The Last Airbender was previously adapted for live-action in 2010 by M. Night Shyamalan. The film adaptation was panned by fans and critics, with many considering it inferior to the animated series. Fortunately, it looks like Netflix has been much more careful with this iteration, and fans seem to be responding quite well.
Here’s the official teaser trailer for the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series being released on Netflix:
The visuals certainly look great, with everything closely matching the aesthetics and designs of the animated series. Fans can see mystical creatures brought to life and the captivating abilities of the benders as they control the Earth’s elements.
The series is said to follow “a young Air Nomad named Aang, as he reawakens to a world ravaged by war. Together with his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, he embarks on an action-packed quest to take his rightful place as the next AVATAR.” Clearly this series will be closely following the narrative of the original show. With the addition of being a live-action series, however, it’ll be interesting to see how the lore and fantasy elements of the show will be interpreted.
The cast of the new series includes Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, and Gordon Cormier as Aang.
Fans can expect the series to be released via Netflix next year in 2024. Hopefully we’ll have more information and additional looks at the show in the near future. Until then, this is certainly a nice surprise for fans of the Nickelodeon franchise, and one that should hold audiences over until the live-action adaptation makes its debut.
