The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in the midst of numerous reworks between the pandemic and the recent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Now it looks like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty could be the next project to be either reworked or scrapped entirely due to behind-the-scenes issues.
MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios co-author Joanna Robinson suggested as much while discussing writer Jeff Loveness and his role in writing the Avengers sequel. As noted on The Ringer’s House of R podcast, via CBM, Loveness is reportedly no longer involved with the film.
Here’s what she shared about Loveness, who also wrote Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, being removed from the film’s production:
“I heard from someone recently…the screenwriter Jeff Loveness, who wrote Quantumania, was supposed to write The Kang Dynasty…anyway, it’s confirmed. I had it confirmed to me he’s no longer working for Marvel,” she reveals.“I asked the person why, and they said the reason why is he was all wrapped up in this Kang storyline and they are likely going to be moving away from that.”
It’s also no secret that the legal issues surrounding Jonathan Majors have been a thorn in the company’s side. As such, we’ll have to see if this story pans out to be correct, and what it means for the film and the future of Marvel. As of this writing, it does look like Destin Daniel Cretton is still attached to direct, but we’ll have to see what kind of plans Marvel could have going forward.
It’s clear that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to have plenty of issues to address in upcoming movies and shows. Especially with a number of delays on the way. For now, the X-Men franchise spin-off Deadpool 3 starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is the only MCU film scheduled to be released in 2024.
