With an acting career that’s spanned decades in both film and television, fans will be disappointed to learn that actor Andre Braugher has died. He was age 61.
It’s been shared via Deadline that Braugher “died on Monday after a brief illness.” His career included appearances on such television shows as Homicide: Life on the Street, Men of a Certain Age, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Homicide: Life on the Street contained what was perhaps his most memorable role. He played Detective Frank Pembleton in the hit NBC drama series. He appeared in episodes from 1992 to 1998 and even met his wife, Ami Brabson, on the set of the series.
In fact, his television career was so well-received that he received two Primetime Emmy Awards from a total of 11 nominations. He also received two Golden Globe Award nominations.
In addition to his television career, Braugher was involved with the films Primal Fear, City of Angels, A Better Way to Die, Poseidon, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. His first film was the 1989 hit Glory where he played Cpl. Thomas Searles. His final film role was in She Said as Dean Baquet.
As for his most recent television efforts, he was the Narrator for an episode of American Experience, with an appearance as A.B. Wynter lined up for the upcoming series The Residence. A few of his other more recent television appearances can be found on the shows Axe Cop, New Girl, and BoJack Horseman. He was also involved with a number of memorable television films, including Class of ’61, Soldier’s Girl, and 2004’s ‘Salem’s Lot adaptation.
Andre Braugher is survived by his wife, Ami Brabson, and his sons Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley, in addition to his brother Charles Jennings and his mother Sally Braugher. The publication adds that he also left behind his WME agent Brandt Joel, attorney Keith Klevan, and publicist Jennifer Allen of Viewpoint.
