Many will be disappointed to learn that another fan-favorite series has been canceled by ABC. This particular series has been airing on the network since 2017, and now after so many years, it will officially come to an end – and likely come as a surprise to the viewers who have enjoyed the show for such a long time.

The seventh season of the hit series will be premiering on February 20, 2024. This will now become the final season of the show as a result. The announcement of this season being the last is definitely a bittersweet moment for fans and the creative team behind the series alike.

Here’s what they had to say about the series via THR which has become a rather successful medical drama for the network:

“The Good Doctor has been a once in a lifetime opportunity, but it’s time to say goodbye,” co-showrunners David Shore and Liz Friedman and fellow executive producer Erin Gunn said in a statement. “We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve done and the message we’ve been privileged to be a part of. We look forward to giving our fantastic fans, the truly extraordinary Freddie Highmore, the rest of our talented actors (and friends), and the best crew in the business the series ending that you all deserve. Thank you, Sony; thank you, ABC; thank you all.”

The show’s star, Freddy Highmore, also released a statement regarding the opportunity to play Dr. Shaun Murphy on the show. Given his status as an executive producer on the show as well, here’s what he had to share:
“Playing Dr. Shaun Murphy has been an immense privilege and one of the most remarkable and rewarding experiences of my life. I will always be grateful to David, Liz, and Erin as well as the hugely talented — and lovely — cast, writers, and crew who made this show possible. Caring deeply is what got us here. Thank you to Sony and ABC, and to everyone who has watched along at home. With love from Vancouver … tequila, stat!”
There were recent attempts to get a spin-off of the fan-favorite show off the ground titled The Good Lawyer. However, ABC ultimately passed on the show. For now, fans will have to stay satisfied with The Good Doctor and however its own ending for the ABC series turns out.
