Actor Carl Weathers was known for a number of iconic performances in franchises that included Rocky, Predator, and The Mandalorian. Sadly, it’s been confirmed that he’s died at age 76.
As shared via Deadline, his family shared a statement regarding his death. This news shocked fans that have become familiar with the actor for decades through all of his iconic film and television projects.
Here’s the statement that was shared:
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” the statement revealed. “He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”
Weathers was born in New Orleans on January 14, 1948. In the decades since then, he began forming a massive acting career. Many fans will remember him for his role in Predator, where he starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the iconic 1987 sci-fi action hit. Likewise, he starred alongside fellow action star Sylvester Stallone several years prior in 1976’s Rocky.
Of course, he also had some iconic appearances in recent years that reached all-new generations. This included the hit 2019 Disney Plus series The Mandalorian. His appearance in the series as Greef Karga started a great story arc as he became much closer to the titular character across the following seasons.
His most recent film credit is the 2019 film Toy Story 4 in which he voiced the character Combat Carl. Though the name of the character goes back to the original Toy Story character, Weathers first voiced a version of Combat Carl for the TV special Toy Story of Terror in 2013.
Overall, he’s left fans with a great catalogue of work, and he will always be remembered for his iconic roles and wonderful personality as a human being.
