A new adaptation of The Crow is set to hit theaters this year. Now director Alex Proyas, who helmed the original adaptation of The Crow with Brandon Lee in 1994, has shared his thoughts on the new film. Or, more specifically, he roasted Bill Skarsgård’s version of the character.
Bill Skarsgård will be playing Eric Draven, previously played by Lee in the 1994 adaptation and Mark Dacascos in The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. Skarsgård will be playing a much different interpretation of the character, however, with a more modern twist.
As the first look has revealed, his version of Eric Draven will feature body and facial tattoos not unlike modern day rappers. It’s something that has been criticized by many fans of the original Crow adaptation and comic, and now original director Alex Proyas has shared his own thoughts.
“Eric Draven’s having a bad hair day,” Proyas humorously writes on Facebook. “Next reboot thanks.”
An additional series of comments were included by Proyas, including the following critiques and jokes:
“I guess he’s supposed to be a bad mofo with all those tats and werewolves and skulls on his jacket.”
He then made fun of the drink held by Skarsgård’s character:
“Samuel Adams! Jesus! He could at least drink something more bad-ass.”
Although many fans agreed with Proyas, there were others upset by his comments. An additional Facebook post by Proyas contained the following response to those individuals:
“For all those raging at me because I made a joke about a haircut – why do you care what I think? What does it matter? If your enjoyment of a movie can be ruined so easily by one person you don’t even know isn’t that kind of sad? Go see it if you are excited about it – I don’t want to take anyone’s joy away. God knows we need all the joy we can get in life right now.”
Ultimately, we’ll just have to see how this remake is received once it is fully released. In the meantime, however, the images released so far have certainly led to some interesting reactions by fans and clearly those involved with the original film.
The new take on The Crow is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the new remake as we have them.
