The Spider-Man franchise has developed across film, television, and video games in addition to the original comic books. However, not all projects put into development come into fruition, and now fans want one particular canceled Spider-Man project after the trailer leaked online.

As you can see below, it’s an exciting glimpse into what could’ve been. The project itself took the opportunity to showcase the Multiverse and include variants like Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Gwen, Silk, Ben Reilly, and Miles Morales. Additionally, as for villains, fans could have looked forward to the Sinister Six.

The Multiverse concept has certainly become more popular in recent years. Especially through the popularity of films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: No Way Home. As such, this project would have no doubt done well with fans.

This event would have taken place in Insomniac’s Spider-Man: The Great Web. The title was intended to be a multiplayer video game following the events of Insomniac’s hugely successful Spider-Man video game series. This was confirmed with Yuri Lowenthal’s Peter Parker who delivers the following monologue:

“Sometimes you can swing it as a lone wolf, but you’re way better off with some friends,” Parker shares, noting that the “savage” Sinister Six are on the loose. “I don’t think I’m going to be enough this time, guys. But together, we just might be.”

Here’s the trailer which appears to have been part of the massive Insomniac Games leak from December 2023:

The Spider-Man game teased in the leaked trailer, titled Spider-Man: The Great Web, was unfortunately canceled by Sony. The studio decided to step away from live-service games, though that hasn’t stopped fans from pushing for it to be revived. Though it’s unlikely the project will manage to get back off the ground, stranger things have certainly happened in the entertainment world.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Spider-Man updates as we have them. For now, the newly-leaked Spider-Man: The Great Web trailer is definitely an interesting look at what we could have had. And, in the meantime, fans can still look forward to Insomniac’s Spider-Man 3.
