Actor Nicolas Cage is finding himself back in the superhero genre. One of his most recent appearances included voicing the character Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Now with the confirmation that a Spider-Man Noir television series is in the works, it looks like Nicolas Cage will now portray the character in live-action.
Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, made the announcement today, saying:
“Expanding the Marvel universe with ‘Noir’ is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bringthis series to our global Prime Video customers. The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”
Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character. Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”

It’s definitely an interesting development and will no doubt further place this series on everyone’s minds. It will be the first regular television role of Nicolas Cage’s career. Especially as Sony continues announcing different Spider-Man themed projects, this will certainly help the project stand out more. Not to mention it’ll tie it together with the hit animated films.
