    Max Cancels Highly-Anticipated Upcoming Series

It has been confirmed that a highly-anticipated upcoming series for the Max streaming service has been canceled.

Max has unfortunately canceled a series that fans have been looking forward to for quite some time. The Max series would have greatly expanded the world in which it was intended to take place – which makes it even more disappointing that it’s no longer moving forward.

As such, it seems like this particular corner of DC will remain unexplored (for now) with this latest cancellation.

The series was originally intended to take place in the same universe as The Batman. It was later revamped to take place in the newly-established DC Universe that fans will get to see in James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman.

Now, however, it appears this series will not happen either way. Here’s what was shared in a report regarding the cancellation:

“The planned Arkham Asylum TV series is no longer moving forward at Max,” Variety says about the cancelled show. Variety also adds that while this series, which would have been written by Antonio Campos with Campos also acting as showrunner, is no longer happening, there is still some hope for Arkham to be explored.

“It is still possible, though, that a new project set within the infamous Gotham City asylum could be developed in the future,” their source noted.

In the meantime, there are plenty of new projects in the works for both the DCU and the universe that exists within Matt Reeves’ The Batman. For the latter, fans can still look forward to the upcoming Max series The Penguin as well as the theatrical release of The Batman Part II. On the DCU side of things, there are a variety of films and television shows in the works – albeit just without the Arkham Asylum at the forefront.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding any other upcoming DC projects or those that may be canceled. It’s been an unpredictable few years for DC fans, but hopefully projects like James Gunn’s Superman will be worth it.
