A brand-new series is in the works for Amazon MGM that has a very exciting actor attached. It’s just been announced that Henry Cavill, the star of Man of Steel and the first three seasons of the hit Netflix series The Witcher, has joined the cast of a new live-action Voltron movie.
Fans have been eager to see what Henry Cavill would be doing next with his career. After all, he’s since moved on from his roles as Superman and The Witcher. Now we know that Voltron will be one of the next projects to feature Cavill.
As shared via THR:
Henry Cavill “has come aboard to topline in the live-action feature based on the mecha anime,” with the outlet further noting “that Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing.”
In addition to Cavill’s involvement, the cast of the movie is also said to include actor Daniel Quinn-Toye. However, details beyond their involvement are scarce, and it’s currently unknown what the plot of the new television series will be. Although one can imagine that it will at least somewhat follow the trajectory of the hit animated series on which it is based.
The Voltron animated series actually began life as Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV, which were later edited and dubbed into Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The series features a group of pilots who work together as the Robot Lions, named for their vehicles that once joined together create a giant robot: the titular Voltron.
It’s certainly exciting to see that not only is a live-action Voltron movie on the way from Amazon MGM, but that it will include Henry Cavill. Hopefully more details including other cast members and the actual plot of the series will be revealed soon. As for now, we know that Thurber wrote the series alongside Ellen Shanman. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Voltron project as we have them.
