The horror genre is often recognized for its onslaught of sequels and franchises. Of course, many titles are left without continuations, and fans often wait years for other sequels to come to fruition. This is the case with another sequel to a beloved 90’s horror movie, which has finally entered production.
This particular sequel has been in the works for quite some time, and after such a long wait to see it get off the ground, it’s finally happening. What’s especially exciting, however, is how it will fit into its own iconic franchise. With so many different iterations, it will finally be returning to the core storyline and characters that fans care about.
As teased in the image below shared by the film’s official social media account:

Indeed, the new film is none other than a sequel to the 1997 classic I Know What You Did Last Summer. For those that care about franchise continuity, the film will also be following the events of its 1998 follow-up, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Both of these films included Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., and the pair are set to reprise their roles for the new entry.
There have been two other projects released between 1998 and now, including the 2006 stand-alone straight-to-video venture I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, and a stand-alone television series released on Amazon Prime Video in 2021. Things seem to be getting back on track with this latest iteration, however, especially seeing that the new horror movie will be a direct sequel to the original two entries.
Fans will be able to see the new sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer when it hits theaters next year on July 18, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the long-awaited follow-up as we have them. Now that production is underway, hopefully we’ll have many other exciting glimpses and teases in the coming months.
