Fans of the Spider-Man film franchise have mixed feelings about Spider-Man 4 due to the latest rumor regarding the project. As it turns out, Spider-Man 4 could feature a major change compared to the three previous installments of the MCU film franchise.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have been developing the fourth MCU Spider-Man film for quite some time. Though many details regarding the project are being kept under wraps, it seems as though the two studios have pushed the film into a variety of directions over the years.
Now, according Cosmic Marvel on X, via insider Daniel Richtman, the studios may have agreed on one major change that will have fans divided regarding Spider-Man 4. Especially if it turns out to be true. Here’s what was shared:

While Peter Parker’s comic book incarnation does have multiple love interests, including Gwen Stacy and Black Cat, many fans feel like MJ is the ultimate love interest for Peter Parker. Other fans simply want to see the two stay together. After all, not only do viewers already have an understanding for their relationship that has been developed in the last three Spider-Man movies, but they’re also aware of Tom Holland’s real-life relationship with MJ actress Zendaya.
It could certainly be beneficial to Spider-Man 4 if they introduce a new love interest, especially if it’s a story arc they hope to follow for several new installments. Otherwise, it could be upsetting for Spider-Man fans who are already invested in Peter Parker’s development with MJ. Ultimately, we’ll have to see what happens when Spider-Man 4 hits theaters on July 24, 2026.
