It’s been quite some time since the Alien and Predator movie franchises crossed over on the big screen. Now that the releases of Alien: Romulus and Prey have seemingly revived both brands, however, fans are interested in seeing a new take at crossing them over. Now Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez has shared his own pitch for an Alien vs. Predator movie.
Alvarez, who previously suggested that he and Prey director Dan Trachtenberg could possibly come up with a new Alien vs. Predator movie, notes that his newly-revealed pitch doesn’t acknowledge what Trachtenberg’s take would be. However, his own take is one that could very well get fans excited.
Here’s what Alvarez explained while speaking with Collider via SFF Gazette:
“I can’t speak for [Prey director Dan Trachtenberg]. At some point, once there’s another Alien, and I know he’s working on a sequel to Prey, one day if we feel like, ‘Yeah, that’s what we cannot wait to see,’ I think that’s a movie we could do,” he started. “The way I would do it, most likely, if it could be done this way … It’s harder to keep secrets online … The best AVP will be the one that you don’t know is AVP until the other guy shows up.”
It seems as though Fede Alvarez would like a new Alien vs. Predator movie to play out as a complete surprise. He continued to explain how this would work:
“You think you’re watching a Predator movie, and then they land in some place and there are creatures, and f*cking hell, it’s a Xenomorph. That would get me. ‘F*** yeah!’ You’d go crazy.”
“Or vice versa, you’re in an Alien movie, and then suddenly a mysterious creature is there, and you can hear that sound, and you see the cloak, and you go, ‘Is that a f*cking Predator?’ And then turns out it is,” Álvarez added. “That would be the way to do it, don’t you think? Once you put it in the title, it’s like, ‘Spoiler alert.'”
Of course, keeping the film’s real nature isn’t a guarantee that the production could avoid spoilers. It is, however, an interesting idea and one that hasn’t really been discussed. While it might not ever happen, fans certainly wouldn’t mind seeing a few Easter eggs thrown in as a surprise here and there. After all, that’s what launched the AVP brand in the first place, when a very familiar-looking Xenomorph skull appeared during Predator 2.
In the meantime, fans can look forward to the television series Alien: Earth, a theatrical sequel to Alien: Romulus, the live-action movie Predator: Badlands, and another Predator project that is reported to be an animated film.
