It’s not exactly a surprise to see Disney revive one of its beloved IPs for a new feature movie. However, this particular project is quite different from the studio’s usual output. In place of major superhero blockbusters or live-action adaptations, this particular sequel aims to be a nostalgic sequel to one of the smaller – albeit still beloved – family films from Disney.

Fans have been clamoring for a follow-up to this property for years. Now, 22 years after the original film was released in 2003, the sequel is finally being prepared to hit theaters. Fans can get their first proper glimpse at the follow-up with a new teaser trailer released by Disney as shared below.

The footage reveals the return of two major stars from the original film in addition to a number of new faces. With more than two decades having passed, it can be difficult to pull off the return of characters after so long, but this film seems quite faithful to what its 2003 predecessor established.

Here’s the official teaser trailer for the long-awaited follow-up titled Freakier Friday which includes the return of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan:

The plot for this Disney sequel seems similar to the 2003 film, in which body swapping is involved, but the stakes are clearly much more hectic this time around. A total of four bodies seemingly end up switching places, leading into more chaos than the previous film delivered.

Nisha Ganatra directed the new follow-up from a screenplay penned by Jordan Weiss. In addition to the return of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan the cast also includes Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Sophia Hammons, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Vanessa Bayer, Lucille Soong, Rosalind Chao, and Mark Harmon.

Freakier Friday is scheduled to hit theaters on August 8, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated sequel to Freaky Friday as we have them. After more than two decades, it’s good seeing these two back on the screen together.
