The next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Avengers series is starting production. The new film, titled Avengers: Doomsday, will united several superhero groups against a common threat: Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Unfortunately, one Marvel star has given a disappointing update regarding whether or not they’ll return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday.
A surprising number of cast members were recently announced as part of Avengers: Doomsday. The announcement revealed that the film will include several original Avengers members alongside the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, and several Wakanda characters.
As shared while appearing at SXSW, however, it looks like one superhero team likely won’t get any representation in the film.
As explained by The Direct:
“Lauren Ridloff (Makkari) said that she does not expect to return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday, if even at all.”
Ridloff, who was a star in the divisive MCU film Eternals as Makkari, had this to say regarding whether or not she knew anything about a return in Avengers: Doomsday or elsewhere in the MCU.
“Not likely,” she said via her sign language interpreter, “I don’t know, my magic eight ball is telling me ‘Not likely.'”
With her response in mind, it’s worth noting that Disney hasn’t completely erased the Eternals. In fact, there have been references to the superhero movie as recently as Captain America: Brave New World, which finally tackled the Celestian in the Arctic Ocean and furthermore how this leads to the introduction of Adamantium.
While Ridloff and possibly other Eternals stars might not be involved with Avengers: Doomsday, one can hope their story receives some closure in the future. As for now, Doomsday is shaping up to be quite the crossover event, and it’s likely that the surprises won’t be stopping with Avengers: Secret Wars also in the works.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the MCU as we have them.
