More than twenty years have passed since 28 Days Later was released in 2002. Additionally, nearly two decades have passed since its 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later. Now fans are finally getting the next follow-up in the series – 28 Years Later, the new trailer for which can be viewed below.
The original 28 Days Later was a British post-apocalyptic horror film which starred Cillian Murphy. It was widely recognized for its rejuvenation of the zombie genre, even though its director does not consider it as such. The film offers a vastly different take on a post-apocalyptic “infection,” with its infected capable of running at intense speeds thanks to a highly contagious virus known as “rage.”
Now the story of this virus, albeit set decades later, is finally being picked back up by the original film’s writer and director. Many details regarding this new effort, 28 Years Later, are currently being kept under wraps. Fortunately the new trailer does give some exciting glimpses at what’s to come in 28 Years Later.

Perhaps what’s especially exciting about this effort, in addition to how high-quality the sequel appears to be, is that it’s just the first of a new trilogy of sequels to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. The next film following this one will be 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple which has already been shot. A title has not been given to the third film which is still in development.
28 Days Later director Danny Boyle returned to direct 28 Years Later from a screenplay by returning screenwriter Alex Garland. The cast of the film includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, and Ralph Fiennes.
