Author Stephen King is quite fond of showing support for other projects outside of his own. King, having created some of the greatest books and movies of our modern era, tends to be rather credible with his recommendations. As such, Max subscribers might be interested in checking out the top horror movie added to the service that Stephen King has happened to praise on social media.
As you can see below, King wrote about the film on the social media app Threads. At the time, however, he watched the film on Amazon Prime. It has since moved to Max and climbed all the way to the number one spot on the platform in the United States.
With numbers like those and praise from individuals like Stephen King, it definitely looks like it’s worth a watch. Here’s what Stephen King wrote about the horror movie prior to it streaming on Max:
“COMPANION: A totally fine horror/science fiction movie,” he begins. “(Also pretty funny.) I wish I’d seen it in the theaters, but watched it on Amazon Prime. Try it.”

When judging by the numbers the film is doing on Max, it seems as though many viewers are probably wishing they had seen the film in theaters. Companion grossed $36.7 million on a $10 million budget. While it’s not the greatest box office run, it did receive positive reviews from critics.
Drew Hancock both wrote and directed Companion which stars Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid. The two join their friends for a cabin getaway for the weekend, though things begin to spiral out of control because one of the characters is revealed to actually be a companion robot. Though these robots are normally harmless, this particular bot has been jailbroken, which allows chaos to ensue.
It’s the type of science-fiction film that doesn’t exactly offer an original concept. However, at a time when both artificial intelligence and robots are reaching new levels seemingly daily, it seems to offer more relevance that viewers might appreciate. Now subscribers can check out Companion for themselves on Max to see whether or not it’s worth the hype.
