Fans have eagerly looked forward to Grand Theft Auto VI for years now. Of course, the game’s production has taken a tremendous amount of time, with many details still shrouded in secrecy and speculation. Now it looks like Grand Theft Auto fans will have to wait even longer for answers because Grand Theft Auto VI is officially facing a delay until May 2026.
Rockstar Games announced the delay on their official website, noting that the original release date of fall 2025 was pushed back so that the studio could “deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.” Delays are always disappointing, but if it means a game like Grand Theft Auto VI will be released with plenty of quality control, then it should definitely be worth the wait.
Here’s what was shared in their official statement:
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.
“We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.”
In addition to waiting years for the title to be completed, it’s already been more than a year since the first Grand Theft Auto VI teaser trailer was released in December 2023. Of course, the title is following the huge success of Grand Theft Auto V, the franchise’s most recent main entry which debuted in 2013.
