The latest filmmaking endeavor from director Ari Aster, who previously helmed such films as Hereditary, Midsommar, and Beau is Afraid, will reunite Aster with his Beau collaborator Joaquin Phoenix. Phoenix stars in the film alongside fellow Hollywood A-lister Pedro Pascal as depicted in the full official trailer for Eddington.

The film, as one can imagine from the works of Aster, is a rather unique piece set in the year 2020. The film uses this pandemic era setting to tell a modern-day western between Joaquin Phoenix‘s character, Joe Cross, who is the small-town sheriff based in Eddington, and Pascal’s character, Ted Garcia, who is the mayor of Eddington running for a re-election.

Here’s the full official trailer for Eddington:

It’s definitely a surprising take for a film not only set during the pandemic but one that establishes itself as a modern-day western. With credits that include the surreal dark comedy Beau is Afraid, however, it’s not exactly surprising that Aster would come up with such an unexpected concept. Hopefully fans will get a kick out of the project especially when comparing with his other works.

In addition to Phoenix and Pascal, the film has a pretty incredible cast of actors. These include other Hollywood celebrities like Emma Stone and Austlin Butler, with the full list of cast members listed below.

The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., William Belleau, Amélie Hoeferle, Matt Gomez Hidaka, Cameron Mann, Landall Goolsby, Elise Falanga, and Robert Mark Wallace.

The next highly-anticipated project from director Ari Aster, Eddington, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 18, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the work of filmmaker Ari Aster as we have them. As for now, this new trailer suggests yet another interesting and unique project from Aster.
