Robert Eggers, hot off the success of Nosferatu, is now set to adapt yet another classic. As it turns out, Robert Eggers has been tapped to direct a new version of A Christmas Carol for Warner Bros.

As shared by Deadline, he is currently working on the project with plans to “write and direct a retelling of the classic Charles Dickens Christmas ghost story A Christmas Carol.” Additionally, Eggers already has an exciting actor in mind to play Ebenezer Scrooge.

Though no one has signed on in terms of talent, it looks like Willem Dafoe is the actor Eggers has in mind for Scrooge. This makes sense, given that the two have collaborated on several projects together, including Eggers’ most recent effort, Nosferatu.

Furthermore, Chris Columbus and Elenor Columbus are attached to produce the project via Maiden Voyage, with Eggers also set to produce. They previously produced his adaptation of Nosferatu together, with plans to also produce his upcoming horror movie Werwulf.

Other details regarding his adaptation of A Christmas Carol are being kept under wraps, though it’s become quite an iconic story for various generations. With countless adaptations and parodies of the story, the core elements have been reproduced every Christmas with new stories and interpretations, though Eggers is a director that would certainly make it his own.

A Christmas Carol revolves around Ebenezer Scrooge who fails to appreciate the Christmas holiday or those around him. With the death of his business partner Jacob Marley, he is visited by Jacob’s ghost, in addition to the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. Charles Dickens wrote the original story and Eggers would no doubt do well to adapt these supernatural elements or the period setting that it could easily be set in.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding A Christmas Carol as we have them. With Eggers working on this project in addition to Werwulf, it’ll be exciting to see what projects he’ll have to offer next.
