Zoe Saldaña won her first Oscar earlier this year for her role in Emilia Pérez. Now Zoe Saldaña has given an update at the premiere of her latest film, Elio, specifically referring to the status of her Oscar statue.
As shared via People, Saldaña was asked about the current whereabouts of the award. While she did explain that it was currently being kept at her office, she added some additional information regarding the statue’s gender identity.
Here’s what she shared on that front regarding the gender identity of her Oscar statue:
“We have it in my office and my Oscar is gender fluid.”
Saldaña’s description of the statue continued to describe the award as “trans” and that it “goes by they/them” pronouns. Details regarding the statue end there, but it’s certainly an interesting response regarding the statue’s current status.
It’s surprising to see that she only received her first Academy Award with the release of 2024’s Emilia Pérez. Her career in Hollywood goes back decades, with some incredibly high-profile blockbusters under her belt, including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Star Trek, Avatar, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Additionally, she has a history with appearing in several projects across the television landscape, including the 2014 miniseries Rosemary’s Baby, a voice role as Princess Maya in Maya and the Three, and she also plays the lead role Joe McNamara in the 2023 television series Lioness.
