One longtime Marvel Cinematic Universe actor and one newcomer have been brought together for the upcoming MCU film Avengers: Doomsday. Two of the film’s stars, Robert Downey Jr. and Pedro Pascal, have formed a friendship while working on the blockbuster crossover event and it’s been enough that Downey has stated Pascal reaffirmed his “faith in our industry” with his own becoming a star in recent years.
Pedro Pascal, who will play Reed Richards in the upcoming film The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is set to immediately reprise the part in Avengers: Doomsday. Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark aka Iron Man in a variety of MCU projects, will be playing iconic Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.
As such, the two have gotten to know each other quite well, and Downey has even offered “homework days” for different Doomsday cast members at his home including Pascal. While Pascal didn’t give away any details about these days when asked, he did note it was a “very good question.”
Now, as shared while speaking with Vanity Fair, Downey had this to say about Pascal and his climb to Hollywood stardom:
“Pascal’s slow trajectory to becoming a household name who is on a wildly hot streak kind of reaffirms my faith in our industry,” Downey shared.
Pascal also had nice things to say about Downey:
“He’s just so immediately generous and inviting that you feel like you can be afraid, you can be hungry, you can be ambivalent.”
In fact, Downey helped Pascal when he was processing backlash against the announcement that he’d be playing Reed Richards. He noted that there was “disgruntlement around my casting” and that he heard the following complaints from fans:
“He’s too old. He’s not right. He needs to shave.”
Fortunately, Downey was there to help Pascal, and other co-stars from other projects, including Fantastic Four: The First Steps co-star Vanessa Kirby and The Last of Us co-star Bella Ramsey, also all had great things to say about the actor. While some fans were divisive about his take on Reed Richards, it certainly sounds like everything could be working out for the best.
